Is the sweltering heat or bitter cold keeping you cooped up indoors? Maybe you’re on vacation or a business trip that has you far away from your weekly workout routine?

Staying active, even on-the-go or when the weather is less than ideal, is important and impacts both your physical and mental health in a positive way. Getting 30 minutes a day, 4 or 5 days out of the week is ideal, and achievable! Read on for some tips to keep your body moving, even if the odds are stacked against you.

It’s blistering hot, raining or just too cold…

Sometimes working out in certain weather conditions can be dangerous, especially when the temperatures rise and fall to the extremes, and sometimes weather can be a great excuse to skip your workout and kick back in front of the TV. Good news is you don’t have to go to the gym or go out in unfavorable weather to get in a quality workout.

Use a couch or sturdy chair to do tricep dips to work on muscle building, and add in some crunches, squats or push-ups for a full-body workout. For easy indoor cardio, you can do jumping jacks or invest in a jump rope to get your heart rate going. Added bonus: you can keep binge-watching your new favorite Netflix series while doing these workouts.

I Don’t Have a Gym!

If you’re traveling and do not have access to your usual gym, you can still find a way to fit in some physical activity. Some health experts recommend packing light workout equipment that won’t take up much space, like resistance bands or yoga mats specifically made for travel, ensuring that you can get in a good workout in your hotel room or Airbnb.

If you’re staying in a larger city, you can also download apps like ClassPass, which will find gyms or facilities near you that will allow you to book a single session workout class, or Aaptiv, which allows you to pick what kind of workout you’re looking to do, such as yoga or basic strength training that doesn’t require weights or equipment. If all else fails, take a walk around the city and take in the sights while you get your sweat on!

The Internet is Your Friend

If you’re new to working out, or don’t have the budget for workout classes, equipment or apps, the internet is always your friend. Workout channels on YouTube like Yoga with Adriene or MadFit offer lots of free workout routines at varying levels, and most, if not all, can be done in your home with a phone or computer nearby.

No matter where you are or how unfavorable the weather is outside, there are plenty of resources available to get your sweat on!
